Children at a London primary that was named “school of the year” are being branded cheats by pupils from rival schools after two SATs papers were annulled by exam watchdogs.

Broadford Primary School, in Romford, is being investigated by the Standards and Testing Agency over claims that pupils were fed answers to the Year 6 maths and English papers.

Broadford emerged from special measures in 2011 and last year was judged outstanding by Ofsted, and secured the Times Educational Supplement’s School of the Year title.

One parent said: “Unfortunately kids are already being called cheaters by kids from other schools via social media. Our kids have done nothing wrong and will be picked on because of this.”

The probe was launched after a whistleblower raised concerns that nine pupils had completed a complex maths question typically only answered by the very brightest.

It was alleged the children, aged 10 or 11, had not written down their workings-out and that inspectors found a bundle of test papers had been opened before the exam.

A source close to the school said that “no one has provided any evidence to back up these claims.”

They added: “There was no coaching of pupils on questions during the exams.” The department for education said the results of two papers were annulled.
