Closure leaves 5,000 without a doctor

A GPs' surgery in west London is to close leaving more than 5,000 people forced to find a new doctor.

Patients at Kensington Place were given three months' notice of GP and owner Carole Bronsdon's decision to resign.

Her departure means the surgery off Notting Hill Gate can no longer be used as a practice and its two other GPs will lose their jobs.

David Jacobson, 61, a sculptor who lives near the surgery, said many patients, including his mother-in-law, Iris, 97, "have lived in the borough for many years and need continuity of care".

He said: "It has been an outstanding facility the like of which is rare in the market orientated and business driven society we exist in."

In a letter sent to patients this month, Dr Bronsdon said: "The time has come me to move on therefore I have resigned and will leave the practice on April 30."

She declined to explain why she was leaving.

An NHS North West London spokeswoman said: "In these circumstances we must work to provide an alternative for patients. Support will be provided during this process and all patients will continue to have full access to the health services they need."
