A schoolgirl died after doctors failed to conduct simple tests which could have revealed the early signs of deadly brain damage, an inquest heard.
Amie Miller, 15, had been suffering agonising headaches for a week while completing her mock GCSEs at Grays Convent High School in Thurrock, Essex. She was taken to Basildon A&E after she began vomiting and fitting on November 16, 2008, but died within days after a large amount of fluid built up around her brain.
An inquest in Chelmsford yesterday heard how doctors failed to conduct simple neurological observations. Duty doctor Dr Michel Sun Wai told the inquest: “I am not denying neurological observations would have helped with Amie’s condition. But the handover to me was that the patient was waking up and was getting better.”
The jury inquest is expected to last three days.
