Emily’s song is protest with bells on

A Girl of five has written a protest song against the Lewisham closure.

Emily Penner was inspired after joining protests at the hospital. The lyrics are aimed at the Trust Special Administrator which has proposed shutting Lewisham’s A&E.

Set to the tune of Jingle Bells, they include the lines: “TSA go away. We don’t want your closures here. Lewisham hospital here to stay. Yay!” Her mother Vicky, a businesswoman and mother of three, said: “It’s good that Emily wants to get involved — she’s becoming quite an activist.

“I had all my children there [at Lewisham] and the first [Emily] was breech but my son had the cord wrapped around his neck. Under these new proposals, he would have been put in an ambulance and taken to another hospital which means he could have died.”

Campaigners joined Emily in chanting the song at a vigil last week.
