South London football fans have been asked to keep emotions in check on the eve of Saturday’s FA Cup final.

Health bosses in Croydon issued the warning the day before Crystal Palace take on Manchester United at Wembley amid fears of a possible spike in hospital admissions.

More than 28,000 Palace supporters will attend tomorrow’s final at Wembley while millions will watch from their sofas.

Dr Kathryn Channing, lead consultant at the emergency department at Croydon University Hospital, said: “We know people across Croydon will want to get together with friends and family to watch the FA Cup Final, and we don’t want to stop them from enjoying this amazing event.

“However, we also don’t want anyone to spoil their weekend by ending up in hospital.

“Our A&E department is always busy and we will always prioritise those whose needs are most urgent.

“We are all hoping that Palace win – and that people celebrate responsibly - so that it is a memorable weekend for all the right reasons.”

Earlier this month, people were warned away from visiting Leicester’s main A&E department after it filled with supporters who overdid the club’s Premier League winning celebrations.

Leicester's Royal Infrimary said twice as many people as normal had arrived at the A&E overnight following yesterday's party at the King Power stadium for Claudio Ranieri's champions.
