A heartbreaking letter written by two young girls whose Tube worker father died from a brain tumour is helping raise awareness of the lack of funding for research into the killer disease.

Bethany and Chloe Lloyd, aged 13 and 11, who face their second Christmas without father Steve, feature in an ad launched today on the Underground.

Mr Lloyd, a District line manager at Ealing Common depot, died in September 2015 aged 40 after being diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, an inoperable and aggressive brain tumour.

His daughters wrote: “We’re getting ready for Christmas again but it’s really sad you’re not here with us. We miss you so much.

Research plea: Chloe, left, and Bethany Lloyd with parents Angela and Steve, who died last year

“You were such a great dad, always so much fun to be around. Things just aren’t the same any more, we try our hardest to look after Mum and she does the same for us. You and Mum were always honest about your brain tumour but we hated seeing you go through that horrible illness and we will never get over the shock of losing you.

“We love and miss you every day, especially on birthdays and at Christmas. Your friends who worked with you on the London Underground have been helping Brain Tumour Research by raising money to find a cure.

“We’ve also been thinking of all the other children who have lost a mum or dad or someone important to them to a brain tumour and we really hope there will be a cure someday soon, so that other families don’t have to be sad like we are. We love and miss you Dad and always will.” The charity Brain Tumour Research wants spending on research to increase to at least £30 million a year.
