Ten grassroots groups that help young people affected by the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire have been given grants amounting to £321,150 by the Grenfell Young People’s Fund.

It marks the second of three spending rounds, spread over 2018-2020, designed to allow the £1.34 million fund to have an enduring positive impact on the Grenfell youth.

The fund was formed out of the undistributed £574,000 of the £7.4 million donated by readers to the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund Grenfell Appeal, and then more than doubled by contributions from Artists for Grenfell and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

The grants panel, overseen by North Kensington youth and community members, awarded sums up to £45,000, each payable over up to three years.

Competition was strong, with 31 applicants reduced to a shortlist of 17 by community panel members supported by The London Community Foundation, which manages the Dispossessed Fund. The panel met at the Al-Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre near Grenfell to select the final 10.

Kelly Rust, director of grants and impact for LCF, said: “This fund, now in its second year, has given the community — particularly young people, who make up the majority of the panel — the power to decide how best the funding can support young people in the area after Grenfell.

“LCF and the Dispossessed Fund are committed to supporting the people involved in this important fund to have an impact locally.”
