Gordon Ramsay’s much-hyped new restaurant will open in Southwark next week — without his friend David Beckham.

The pair were believed to be opening Union Street Café together but the retired star footballer is no longer involved in the project.

Former England captain Beckham visited the site and was said to be keen to open the Mediterranean-themed restaurant alongside the Michelin-starred celebrity chef.

However, a source told the Standard today that Beckham has decided not to go ahead, adding: “It is too much to say he has pulled out. It is more that they are mates, they spoke about it, he had a look but they are not involved officially.”

However, Ramsay and Beckham are in talks about opening another business — possibly a pie and mash shop — either in the UK or abroad.
