A blimp bearing the logo of Aphex Twin has sparked speculation the pioneering ambient DJ could be set to make a comeback.

His unmistakable logo - along with the text '2014' - was spotted on a neon-green blimp above the Oval Space in Bethnal Green on Saturday.

Later, the symbol was also seen in three separate locations in New York, fuelling speculation that a comeback is imminent.

The DJ - whose real name is Richard D James - has not released a studio record since the double album Drukqs 13 years ago.

He has previously said he has 10 or 11 albums ready and waiting for be released, but is not known to have released any music under any name since a series of bonus tracks in 2009.

A DJ set from him at Glastonbury festival this summer also raised hopes among his fans that he could be preparing for a comeback.

James shot to prominence in 1992 with the release of his first full length album, Selected Ambient Works 85-92.

The record and follow-ups including the Richard D. James Album and the Windowlicker EP are widely considered some of the most influential electronica albums of the past 20 years.

His label, Warp Records, has not yet released any official comment on whether the sightings of the logo herald the imminent arrival of a new album.
