They say everyone has a novel in them which appears to be the case for most Londoners, after it was revealed an author is the most sought after career choice in a new poll.

A total of 1,830 people living in the capital were given a list of jobs and asked: “Generally speaking, please say whether you would or would not like to do each of the following for a living.”

An author was the most sought after career choice selected by 60 per cent of respondents, followed closely by an academic and a librarian coming in as the third most desirable career.

Working as a miner was the least popular job with 87 per cent of people picking it as something they would not like to do, followed by call centre work.

Most Londoners appear to prefer the quiet life and would rather be a librarian than a Hollywood movie star.

The aspiration to up sticks and move to the countryside and work as a farmer was also an unpopular option, with only 27 per cent of people saying they would like to do this.

The poll was carried out by YouGov in January this year.
