Offices were evacuated in central London after a "suspicious package" was discovered, which turned out to be a bag.

Police were called to the scene and found an unattended bag in Wagamama restaurant on Wigmore Street.

They have confirmed that officers have "stood down" and are no longer treating it as suspicious.

Officers were called at 2:25pm and eyewitnesses reported bomb squads and police dogs at the scene.

Panicked office workers tweeted their confusion, with one writing: "Suspect package found in Wagamamas, Wigmore Street, opposite my office.

"Police instructed we remain inside the building."

Another said she and her colleagues were "trapped" in their office with no idea what is going on.

A police spokeswoman said: "We were called to a suspicious package found and were investigating it.

"Officers have stood down. The package, which was a bag, is not suspicous."
