Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie view £25m Marylebone penthouse in search for new London home

“Ideal”: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are believed to have viewed the duplex apartment in The Chilterns

London homes viewed by Hollywood’s most glamorous couple as they search for a base in the capital include a £25 million Marylebone penthouse close to the Chiltern Firehouse restaurant.

Property sources said Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had taken an interest in the spectacular five bedroom duplex apartment at a new luxury development in the West End’s hottest residential district.

The flat has its own glass internal lift linking the two floors and comes with a wine cave already stocked with £100,000 worth of bottles.

It also has more than 2,500 sq ft of private roof gardens and terraces and its own studio annexe with a bedroom, kitchen area and bathroom for staff or use as a teenage den.

The main bedroom suite alone is bigger than many London flats and there is also a dining room with space for 16 people to sit down and a cinema room.

Stephen Conway, chairman and chief executive of Galliard Homes, joint developers of the luxury development, The Chilterns, said: ”It would be ideal for a family since it has five bedrooms and a huge abundance of living and family space. We have had a number of search agents who work with celebrities and high-net-worth people inspecting the property over the last few weeks.

“If Brad and Angelina do decide they want to buy it, they will be in very good company, we have had overseas Royals, business tycoons, international artists buy into the scheme.”

Ms Jolie, the star of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Mr and Mrs Smith and Maleficent, is believed to have viewed the apartment and shown details to her husband.

The couple have six children and their main home couple’s main home is Chateau Miraval in the south of France where they married in August.

But property sources suggested that they were drawn to finding a base in London because of its growing reputation as a film production centre.

The couple are already regular visitors to Britain. Mr Pitt filmed the war action movie Fury in Dorset last year while his Oscar winning wife co-chaired a global summit to end sexual violence in conflict in London in June with the then foreign secretary William Hague.

But Mr Pitt is known not to be a fan of the British tax system and the couple will face a stamp duty bill of up to £1.75 million if they buy the apartment.

If a mansion tax is introduced by a Labour government after the election they could also be hit with an annual charge running to hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Marylebone was once seen as the West End’s dowdiest district but is now one of its most glamorous. The opening of the Chiltern Firehouse earlier this year has accelerated the transformation of the area with celebrities seen dining there every night.
