A bus driver is facing disciplinary action after fighting with another motorist in the middle of the road.

Footage posted online shows the two men squaring up to each other as the bus passengers look on bemused and motorists sound their horns.

The row erupted at 3pm last Wednesday after a car allegedly cut across the bus on Tower Bridge Road. The driver of the Number 42 double decker got out to remonstrate with the motorist who is said to have spat in his face.

A 13-second video shows the bus driver chasing after the motorist while a cyclist and a passer-by try to intervene.

The video was taken from a stationary car and uploaded online. A source said the confrontation occurred after the bus driver lost his temper when the other motorist cut across the bus as two lanes merged into one.

The bus driver was said to have been incensed after being spat in the face by the motorist.

The video has been shared hundreds of times on Facebook.

One person posted: “Oh my God I know the driver. I worked with him. Shocked because he never came across like that. But then again driving a bus in London and with so many stupid drivers out there I don’t blame him.”

Another commented: “Shouldn’t spit at the bus driver then.”

Claire Mann, Transport for London’s director of bus operations, said: “This behaviour falls well short of the standards we expect from London’s bus drivers. We are working with the bus operator, Go-Ahead, to ensure the appropriate action is taken.”

Go-Ahead said: “The matter is subject to an investigation.”

A study in 2017 by union Unite found that one in eight bus drivers said they had been spat at in the previous year.
