A motorcyclist has been seriously injured following a horror crash in south London, police said.

The man was rushed to a south London hospital just before 3pm on Thursday after he was involved in a collision with a car outside a parade of shops in Camberwell Road.

Police said the severity of the injuries were not known at this stage but they are not thought to be life threatening.

A Met spokesman said officers and paramedics raced to the scene at around 2.48pm.

A dramatic image captured at the scene showed debris scattered across the main road with bystanders tending to someone on the ground.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 2:48pm today to reports of a road traffic collision at Camberwell Road.

"We sent an ambulance crew, a single responder in a car and an incident response officer to the scene. The first of our medics arrived at the scene in under eight minutes.

"We treated a man at the scene for an arm injury and took him as a priority to a major trauma centre."

The road was shut between Bowyer Place and Medlar Street.
