While some fundraisers tackle marathons, hold bake sales or sit for hours in a bath tub full of baked beans, one maverick Londoner has decided to auction his name on eBay.

City worker Daryl Lewis, from Holloway, is offering bidders the chance to choose his new name in a stunt to raise money for the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.

The 28-year-old is inviting people to bid on the online auction site with the highest offer winning the chance to change Daryl’s name for a year.

With bids opening at £500, Daryl hopes the stunt will help him reach his target of £5,000. He will also be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in December as part of the fundraising effort.

“I wanted to think of a unique way of raising money rather than baking cakes or something like that,” he told The Standard.

“Ultimately I’m out to raise as much as I can, so I don’t really mind what I have to change my name to.

“There are some swear words I don’t think would be accepted by the people at Deed Poll, but other than that I’m open to anything,” he added.

Daryl works as a researcher for a ship-broker in the City but is yet to inform his employer of his plans to change his name.

“In the name of charity I think my bosses would be OK with it,” he said.

“Depending on how extreme the name is I might have to stick with Daryl when talking to some of my clients.

"Hopefully it will just be something light-hearted like 'Bend Over', but we'll see what happens."
