A female pedestrian is fighting for life after being hit by a cyclist in a rush hour crash in west London.

The woman was struck as she walked in Beaufort Street in Chelsea, near Battersea Bridge, on Friday morning.

Emergency services sped to the scene and she was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after suffering severe head injuries.

A large police cordon was put in place and the road was closed for several hours between King's Road and Chelsea Embankment.

Police said the age of the woman is not known at this time.

A spokesman for the Met added: “At 9.25am, patrolling officers found a collision between a pedal cycle and a pedestrian.

“London Ambulance Service attended the scene.

"The female pedestrian suffered a serious head injury and has been taken to a central London hospital.

"Her condition is believed to be life threatening.

"Local road closures are in place while emergency services deal."

Police initially said the incident had involved a motorcyclist and cyclist, but this was later amended.
