Children’s TV show Rainbow may have contained hidden gay messages intended to “homosexualise all children”, a London pastor has claimed.

Daniel Erickson-Hull, who posts religious videos as “Pastor D” and “End Times News Ministry”, made the unusual claim in a YouTube video with hundreds of views.

Rainbow, which documents the adventures of characters such as Zippy, George and Bungle, ran on ITV from 1972 until 1992.

Its theme tune exhorted viewers to “paint the whole world with a rainbow”.

In his video, Mr Erickson-Hull draws attention to a shot in the title sequence where a rainbow apparently penetrates a hardback book, captioning the scene: “Is this supposed to be the rainbow infiltrating the bible?”

He writes: “Perhaps there is nothing in this, a coincidence?

“But it seemed worth raising as a possibility.”

The video divided viewers, with some commenters coming out in favour of Pastor D’s analysis – while others insisted Rainbow was “innocent”.

“Really wasting your time with this rather than focusing on other good things you could be doing with your ministry and life,” wrote one.

Another said: “Not everything that bears the image of a rainbow has hidden queer overtones.

“They have hijacked what was good and turned it into an image of evil.

“Make sure you understand God’s rainbow and the perverts will still be perverts.”

One viewer said: “I used to watch this as a kid and two of the main characters, Bungle and George are extremely camp.”

And another supporter of the video’s message opined: “The music sounded very gay to me. And the guy with the puppets? He may very well be married to a male puppet.

“Any guy with a bunch of puppets you have to wonder about. I’m thinking maybe they were trying to get people to become pansexuals […] and marry puppets.”

PinkNews reports that Mr Erickson-Hull preaches at “a London evangelical church”.

A Facebook page in his name identifies him as the pastor at End Times News Ministry as well as captioning photographs of himself “Pastor D”.

His name and contact details are listed on the website of Higher Ground Church in Chigwell, Essex.
