A London church has adopted an unusual fundraising technique — handing out £20 notes.

St Bride’s Church in Fleet Street is harnessing the entrepreneurial spirit of its worshippers by giving them money to start their own fundraising.

Inspired by the Parable of the Talents — in which a rich man entrusts his servants with his wealth, urging them to “see what you can earn” — participants sign a declaration to return the £20 with interest. Proceeds will help a £200,000 appeal to restore the church.

The Archdeacon of London and Rector of St Bride’s, David Meara, said it was a nice way of “involving the congregation”.
