Commuters are facing months of disruption at one of London's busiest stations as it undergoes a £1billion renovation as part of the capital's Crossrail project.

Central Line trains will not be stopping at Tottenham Court Road station from January 3 until early December as engineers work to transform it.

Northern Line trains will continue to serve the station whilst the part-closure is in place.

Transport for London has said the upgrade work is necessary in order to cope with the estimated 200,000 daily journeys through the station once Crossrail is completed in 2018.

TfL has said it also plans to develop the area outside the station into a "gateway" to Oxford Street, with a new public square and music venue.
