A construction worker died after being hit by a lorry on a building site in Heathrow Airport.

The man, in his thirties, was struck close to the ground floor car park at terminal two, in Cayley Road, around 4.40am this morning.

Police and the London Ambulance Service were called to the scene and found the man suffering from serious injuries.

A spokesman for the LAS said: “We were called at around 4.40am this morning to reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian at Heathrow Airport.

“Sadly, despite extensive efforts to resuscitate the patient, a man was pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor from London’s Air Ambulance.”

The truck driver stopped at the scene and no other vehicles are thought to have been involved, police said.

A spokeswoman for Heathrow Airport said: “A construction worker tragically died at T2 early this morning on an area of the terminal where construction activity is still taking place.

“Our deepest sympathy and thoughts are with their family, friends and colleagues.”

An investigation has been launched by the Health and Safety Executive into the circumstances surrounding the death of the Laing O’Rourke worker.

Next of kin have been informed while a post-mortem examination is due to take course.

No arrests have been made as enquiries continue.
