Council tax bills set to drop in London... by 0.2 per cent

27 March 2013

Most Londoners will see their council tax bill fall this year as local authorities across the capital look to push the levy down.

The biggest drop will be enjoyed by residents in Hammersmith and Fulham, where the average council tax for a band D property will drop by 2.5 per cent to £1,061.

On average bills in London will fall by 0.2 per cent. Meanwhile, across the rest of the country they will rise by about 0.8 per cent this year.

Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles said: “Council tax more than doubled under Labour. But Conservatives in government have worked to freeze council tax for three years.”

The figures released today show that of the 33 billing authorities in London, just seven will increase their council tax in 2013/14.
