A cyclist is said to be fighting for his life after being hit by a car in a "very serious" collision in south London.

The man, whose age is not yet known, was airlifted to hospital after he was hit on Brixton Hill near the junction with Dumbarton Road.

Police were called to the scene at around 5.45pm and the driver of the car stopped at the scene of the crash.

Brixton Hill was closed both ways after the crash, but one lane had later reopened.

Witnesses to the aftermath of the collision described the scene as "horrible".
