A cyclist was arrested after he was caught riding on the M25 this morning, police said.

The 44-year-old, who is from Ghana, was stopped in Surrey this morning and was discovered to have overstayed his immigration visitor’s visa.

Officers found him cycling along the hard shoulder of the motorway from junction 11 to junction 14 before he was stopped in his tracks.

Witnesses described the moment as ‘madness.’

Mike Ferrabee tweeted: “Just driving to the office and some idiot was cycling down the hard shoulder of the M25.”

Another user responder: “Oh dear, not his day. Should have used his extra time in the UK to read the Highway Code.”

Yesterday a footballer was criticised for having a kickabout on the hard shoulder of the same motorway in Kent during heavy traffic.
