A cyclist has been seriously injured after he was hit by a lorry in central London.

The victim, believed to be aged in his mid-20s, was knocked down in Gray's Inn Road just after 10am today.

Paramedics were called to the scene close to the junction with Clerkenwell Road where they treated the man for serious leg injuries.

He was taken to an east London hospital for further treatment but his injuries are not thought to be "life-threatening", a spokesman for Scotland Yard said.

The road was closed temporarily while officers investigated.
