Schoolgirl dies after falling from theme park water ride

An 11-year-old girl has died after falling from a water ride at Drayton Manor Theme Park while on a school trip.

The youngster, who is from the Leicester area, fell from the Splash Canyon ride after her boat reportedly hit a rock.

It was confirmed just before 6pm that the girl - a Year 6 pupil at Jameah Academy, an integrated Islamic day school for girls - had died.

The theme park will remain closed today "in a mark of respect".

Donald Trump fires FBI director

The president claimed he acted to restore "public trust and confidence" in the nation's top law enforcement agency.

The sudden sacking of the nation's most senior law enforcement official outraged Democrats who said the White House was interfering in the inquiry.

In his letter Mr Trump made no mention of Mr Comey's role in the Clinton investigation, which she has blamed in part for the election result.

The Prime Minister, 60, and husband Philip, 59, appeared laughing and joking on the popular chat show for an interview which covered Brexit, Banksy, Eurovision and her love of shoes.

But many TV viewers hit out at comments made by the couple in the first few minutes of the programme when discussing how the high-flying pair divide up household chores.

Mrs May sparked outcry on social media when she said there are specific “boy jobs and girl jobs” around the house.

Three killed in French avalanche

Three people have been killed in an avalanche that struck the Alpine ski resort of Bonneval-sur-Arc in France.

The victims – two men and a woman - are believed to have been a couple and their guide, who were all experienced hikers.

The search was called off at around midday on Tuesday and there are not thought to be any more victims.

Brexit tour of London launched for US tourists

The New York Times is offering a “Brexit means Brexit!” tour of London for its readers.

Costing £4,650 per person, the six-day tour offers visitors the chance to “examine the historic implications of a historic vote”.

Those who sign up will hear journalists, politicians and historians explain what Brexit might mean in the UK and elsewhere.

The trip will include a walking tour of Westminster – featuring a “typical pub lunch and a pint at a pub frequented by members of Parliament” – as well as a visit to the City.
