A man dressed as Darth Vader was snapped leading a funeral procession through the streets of Croydon.

The Star Wars character, dressed all in black and wearing a mask, led a horse-drawn carriage and a cortege of vehicles into Croydon Crematorium.

A Co-op Funeral Care spokeswoman said they had arranged the unusual ceremony - on Tuesday - at the request of the partner of the deceased.

The loved one, who did not wish to be named, said: "I would like to officially thank staff at the Co-op Funeral Care for making this journey possible.

"Everybody set what an amazing funeral and a fitting send-off it was."

Similar sights have been seen before. A man dressed as the Supreme Commander of the Imperial Forces previously led a funeral ceremony in Luton for Lorna Johnson who died after an eight month battle with cancer.
