A large part of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will be out of action for 10 days from Saturday, August 19, so that engineering works can be undertaken.

The works are taking place between Star Lane and West Ham, and will see Transport for London (TfL) making modifications for the first time in 12 years to track components.

Because of this, the DLR will be shut between Stratford International and Canning Town from Saturday to Tuesday, August 29 — which will include the August bank holiday Monday.

Tom Page, TfL’s general manager for the DLR, explained that works had not been completed along the section since 2011, and were needed for safety and reliability.

He said: “This closure between Stratford International and Canning Town is to allow vital track-maintenance works to take place so that we can continue to offer customers a safe and reliable service across the DLR network.

“I would like to thank customers for their patience while these routine works take place and would ask anyone travelling to plan ahead, allowing plenty of time for any journey.”

It had previously been reported that TfL was ordering 11 DLR trains which will come into service next year.

New DLR trains will soon be on the network

How to get around London’s east side during the 10 days of DLR disruption

It will not be the end of the world — or the line — for the majority of the DLR’s users, as the Jubilee line runs in sync with the DLR line up to Stratford. This means Canning Town, West Ham, Stratford, and Stratford International users will not be impacted too much.

But the Jubilee does not stop at DLR stations Star Lane, Abbey Road, or Stratford High Street, so customers will need to get the bus duringthe period of disruption.
