A pilot was forced to abort a passenger plane landing at London City Airport after the jet was rocked by strong winds by ferocious Storm Eleanor.
The British Airways jet was preparing to land on the east London runway this morning but was forced to veer back into the air at the last minute.
Dramatic footage recorded by a passenger on the flight, the BA8705 from Edinburgh, showed the left wing of the plane rocking turbulently from side to side as the jet descended onto the runway.
Just before touching down onto the tarmac, the footage shows the plane taking off again.
An announcement by onboard air crew can be heard in the clip telling passengers that the captain had discontinued “the approach” and told travellers to remain seated with their seatbelts fastened.
The man who shared the video online, Graham Kirk, called it a “rollercoaster ride” but praised the pilot for his smooth handling of the windy weather.
“Someone buy that captain a beer,” he said on Twitter.
According to British Airways, the highly-skilled pilot carried out a standard manoeuvre known as a "go around"
A spokeswoman for the airline told the Standard: "The aircraft circled the airport and landed safely.
"Safety is always our top priority and our highly skilled pilots regularly train to conduct the standard manoeuvre known as a 'go around'."
It comes after weather experts warned the UK would continue to be battered with strong winds and gusts of up to 60mph until Wednesday evening.
Eleanor, the fifth named storm of the season, sparked travel chaos and power failures after bringing 100mph gusts overnight.
