The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined the Queen for the last of the annual Buckingham Palace Garden Parties today.

William and Kate and the 90-year-old monarch were accompanied on the palace terrace by Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice at 4pm as the National Anthem was played.

The royals then made their way into the crowds to mingle and chat with members of the public.

The Duchess stepped out in an Alexander McQueen coat and Jane Taylor hat, which she also wore at Prince George’s christening in 2013.

Kate was on royal duty with the Queen for the second time in 24 hours – after they attended the Chelsea Flower Show together yesterday.

The Queen wore a bold azure blue coat and matching hat with a carnation spray.

William and Prince Philip, who was also in attendance, wore top hats and maroon ties for the occasion and were each pictured clutching a large umbrella.

Each summer, the Queen invites thousands of people to drink tea and eat sandwiches in the palace grounds.

At each party up to 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are served.
