A man has died while out walking in north London after being struck down by a “hit and run” driver.

The 36-year-old man was knocked down at around 7.20am on Holtwhites Hill, Enfield, on Thursday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and an Air Ambulance was scrambled but the man was pronounced dead at 7.54am.

The road was closed throughout the morning while police officers carried out an investigation into what happened.

A hunt has now been launched for the driver who fled the scene without stopping.

Officers from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation unit, based at Chadwell Heath, are leading the investigation.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said the victim’s family have been informed of the tragedy but there had been no arrests so far.

Anyone with information should call the witness appeal line on 020 8597 4874 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
