Millions of Brits were today voting in an historic referendum on the UK's membership of the EU.
But - unlike in general elections - there will be no public exit poll following the vote.
An exit poll is usually produced minutes after voting for a general election closes, giving an idea of which way the country has swung.
The polls, run by Professor John Curtice of Strathclyde University have built up a reliable reputation of correctly predicting the result over many election cycles.
But Professor Curtice has stated that there will be no exit poll for tonight’s referendum due to their method.

Along with his team, he studies vote sampling from various locations and compares them to results in previous locations.
But the last referendum on Britain’s EU membership, then the European Economic Community, was in 1975 so this has been deemed too long ago to be relevant.
City workers are set to work through the night, with financial institutions across London commissioning their own private exit polls to gain intelligence on market movements.
The pound and shares have seen a surge this morning on the currency markets, which would suggest independent polls found in favour of the remain vote.
Polls published previously suggesting a Brexit victory have caused the pound to fall.

The Evening Standard’s exclusive Ipsos Mori poll has shown a narrow lead for the Remain camp, with 52 per cent of people wanting to stay in the European Union, and 48 per cent favouring the Brexit.
