The Evening Standard has landed another major industry prize after being singled out for its “remarkably relevant and lively content”.

It was named Regional Newspaper of the Year at the prestigious 2013 Newspaper Awards, held at the London Hilton hotel in Park Lane last night.

The Standard, read by 1,620,000 Londoners each day, won in the larger-circulation category. The judges said it had moved forward after its ownership change to create “a very appealing package”.

They praised the newspaper’s production values and printing quality, as well as its success in serving the needs of London’s “extended community”.

The Standard’s Jeremy Selwyn was highly commended in the News Photograph of the Year category for his “just wonderful... gloriously ‘off-duty’” image of the Coalition Cabinet with the Queen.

The paper’s printers — the Newsprinters plant at Broxbourne in Hertfordshire — was named Newspaper Printer of the Year.
