A huge blaze engulfed a car workshop in south London this morning.

Six fire engines were called to reports of an explosion at Ken’s Autos, in South Croydon, shortly after 11.15am.

Half of the workshop was set alight, including two cars and the roof of the building on Limpsfield Road.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said one man has been treated for smoke inhalation by staff from the Surrey Ambulance service.

Witnesses described hearing "a loud bang" and said they could see large clouds of black smoke billowing from the garage.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

In an update at 1pm, the LFB said the fire was "under control" but firefighters were still "damping down" the site.

The fire is the second serious blaze at the car workshop in the last six months, according to reports in the Croydon Advertiser.
