Police are today appealing for witnesses after a father was killed and his son injured after being hit by a car yards from a school in east London.
A car mounted the pavement in St Mary’s Lane, Upminster, yesterday at around 3.35pm and collided with the pair near Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School. Paramedics fought to save the 48-year-old father on the road side, but he died at the scene.
The nine-year-old boy suffered minor injuries and was taken to Queen’s Hospital in Romford for treatment.
The collision involved a Ford Fiesta, which was being driven by a 75-year-old man. The driver has been taken to an east London hospital, and is in a stable condition.
No arrests have been made.
A police spokesman: “Police called at 3.37pm on Tuesday 16 July to reports of collision between two pedestrians and a Ford Fiesta in Cranborne Gardens, Upminster.
“Police, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service attend to find a 47-year-old man and a nine-year-old boy injured.
“The 47-year-old man died at the scene. The nine-year-old boy has minor injuries and is currently in an east London hospital.
“The 75-year-old driver of the car has been taken to hospital. He is in a stable condition.”
