The father of a Tube driver and beloved Scout leader who died in a motorcycle crash in north London has paid tribute to his son.

Steven Barnard, 36, of Ware, Hertfordshire, died on Tuesday when he was involved in a collision with a car on the A10 in Enfield.

Police were called at 5.20pm to a collision on the Great Cambridge Road, at the junction with Crown Road, between a car and a motorcycle.

Paramedics were also called but Mr Barnard was pronounced dead at the scene just before 6pm.

He was described by his father Peter as an adventurous explorer who enjoyed extreme sports and maintained a passion for the Scouts since he joined the organisation at primary school.

In a statement issued by police, he said: “He was very involved with scouting from a group, district through to a county level. Scouting was his life and he was very passionate about it.

"He participated and led many scouting activities including trip to the Peak District. He enjoyed the outdoors and extreme sports like snow boarding, water rafting, mountain climbing and biking, then also off-roading with his Land Rover.

“Encouraging young people and adults to challenge themselves, their boundaries and face their fears.

“He was always up for a laugh and loved a practical joke.

“His laugh was something people remember and it was infectious whether you where being laughed at or if he made you laugh.

“Not only a great lost to his mother, father, sister and her partner and his niece but to his extended family and friends which include his scouting family of which many have grown up with him."

Mr Barnard said his son found a career in the public transport industry, first working as an Arriva bus driver before later changing mode to drive on the Tube.

He said even when he rose through the ranks early on in his career to become a bus controller at Edmonton Garage, he was still thought as being “one of the drivers”.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene. She was not arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries.
