Fabric closure: DJs and promoters announce three parties to raise funds for legal battle to reopen club

Fabric: The club's closure sparked an outcry

Some of the UK’s biggest DJs and promoters are joining forces for three mega-parties this autumn in the fight to reopen Fabric.

The #saveourculture events, featuring Seth Troxler and Nina Kraviz among others, were announced this evening after a mysterious new Twitter account yesterday promised a “London announcement coming tomorrow”.

Every penny raised will apparently help keep a small Fabric team in business and fund a legal battle to reopen it.

The popular Farringdon venue lost its licence indefinitely in August following a police investigation into the drug-related deaths of two teenagers. Islington council found the world-famous club had a “culture of drug use”.

But an army of DJs, promoters and dance music fans around the world have since backed a campaign to reopen the club’s doors.

London mayor Sadiq Khan also said he was "disappointed" that an agreement had not been reached between Fabric, Islington council and the Metropolitan Police, throwing his weight behind the campaign.

In an effort to save the venue, the nightclub's owners launched a crowdfunding campaign called #saveourculture to "take on this fight".

The campaign, which has already raised almost £250,000, asks for its supporters to "stand with us and contribute" in order to prepare "a legal battle to re-open and stop this police oppression".

Addressing the recent deaths at the venue, the club said: "We want to learn, we will try harder. We always have. We started this to create a safe place, a home - not a 'superclub'.

"It's about the fabric that unites us all, that stitches together race, gender, age and sexual preference into a brilliant tapestry.

"We invest in the best music, technology, interior and visual design and our staff and safety are industry leading."

The three parties will take place at East London venue Great Suffolk Street, on Saturday October 15, December 3 and December 10.

The first is set to coincide with Fabric’s 17th birthday party, with the line-up featuring the same acts that were booked for that event.

Other UK dance music clubs including the Warehouse Project in Manchester and Motion in Bristol are involved in the events, with tickets available through Resident Advisor from 9am tomorrow.
