Firefighters were still working at the scene of a blaze at a mobile phone repair shop in Finchley Road this morning - 24 hours after it initially broke out.

The fire at the PhoneRepairs4u store continued to cause travel chaos on Tuesday as smoke billowed from the store and emergency services were forced to keep part of the high street closed.

More than 70 firefighters have been battling to contain the blaze, which spread to the flats above on Monday.

The London Fire Brigade said 25 people, including a pregnant woman and a toddler, were rescued from the building.

Finchley Road station was reopened today after it was temporary closed due to the smoke in the area on Monday, Transport for London said.

In an update today, the fire brigade said Finchley Road was likely to remain closed until at least 8am.

A spokesman said: "At 6.15am, good progress was being made but Finchley Road remains closed in both directions and will be for at least a couple more hours."
