A blaze onboard a boat at an exclusive private pier near Chelsea and Fulham raged for nearly three hours this afternoon and killed two cats.

Around 35 fire fighters were sent to Imperial Wharf Marina at 11.15am this morning.

Half of the main deck was damaged by the blaze before it was put out at 1.50pm and a pair of cats died on board, the London Fire Brigade said.

No one was on the 124ft boat when the fire started.

Station Manager Andy Walton said: “The fire boat was instrumental in our ability to fight this fire due to the location of the leisure boat.

"Having it meant we were able to pump water directly from the Thames and bring it under control quickly.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
