Fortnum & Mason is receiving a royal addition to its celebrated honey collection with the introduction of a new nectar from the Duchess of Cornwall.
A limited batch of just 250 jars of The Duchess of Cornwall Honey will be stocked in the flagship store in Piccadilly. All of proceeds are to be donated to the Medical Detection Dogs charity, of which the Duchess is patron.
Produced by bees housed in Camilla's private garden in Wiltshire, the honey is set to become a collector's item, a spokesman for the store said.
Each jar is individually numbered and contains carefully crafted and delicately perfumed nectar with subtle hints of chamomile, making it a good accompaniment to ice cream on hot summer days, or for sweetening tea.
Fortnum's is well known for its home-made honey and commitment to the conservation of bees. It has working beehives on the roof of the Piccadilly store, as well as sites in Hoxton and Bermondsey, London.
Chief executive Ewan Venters said: "Honey is very close to our hearts at Fortnum's. We have four beehives housed on our roof at Piccadilly and a dedicated beekeeper who nurtures and protects our bees to produce incredible honey that is stocked on our shelves. The Duchess's honey is a more than welcome addition, and one I'm certain our customers will love."
The honey costs £20 per jar and was available at the Piccadilly store from today. It will be available from the Fortnum & Mason stores at St Pancras International and Heathrow Terminal 5, and from fortnumandmason.com, from tomorrow.
