Musical theatre star Gary Wilmot is to return to the West End for the first time in a decade.

Wilmot will join the cast of The Pajama Game — the first major London show to be crowdfunded.

The Lambeth-born former New Faces star, below, starred in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Palladium in 2003.

He said he was “delighted” to be back in the West End with the show, which tells the story of a firebrand pyjama factory union representative and the handsome new superintendent who falls for her.

The acclaimed Chichester Festival Theatre production moves to the Shaftesbury Theatre this summer. As well as conventional investment its producers hope to raise £200,000 from crowdfunding, offering the public the chance to become theatrical “angels” by investing as little as £10.
