A Household Cavalry trumpeter came crashing to the ground after his horse took a tumble in Hyde Park.

The mishap took place during the Major General’s Inspection shortly after 10am this morning. Members of the cavalry need to pass the inspection in order to take part in the State Opening of Parliament and the Trooping of the Colour.

In the pictures the white horse can be seen slipping on the muddy grounds of Hyde Park.

The trumpeter, dressed in ceremonial uniform, is brought down alongside his mount at the end of the charge.

Another image shows him clasping his plumed helmet and trumpet in one hand, with the horses reigns in his other hand.

The inspection is the first parade of the year and aims to ensure the regiment is prepared for the busy season.

Throughout the event the trumpeter accompanies the Commanding Officer, recalling the days of battle when the cavalry relied upon trumpet calls for communications between the officer and his troops.
