A relieved Crystal Palace fan has been reunited with his FA Cup final tickets after a good Samaritan found them on a train and launched a social media appeal to find him.

Bar owner Matthew Selwyn found the four tickets to Saturday's sell-out game on board a London train yesterday, and snapped a picture of them, which he shared alongside a Facebook appeal to find their rightful owner.

"A Palace fan left these four FA Cup Final tickets on a train today. If you lost them, let me know what train you left them on and I'll try and get them back to you," he wrote.

After the post was shared more than 1,000 times, a relieved Simon March came forward to say that his father Alan had misplaced the tickets.

Mr March, who lives in America, had come home from the US to watch the match, which will see the Eagles take on Manchester United at Wembley in a bid to lift the trophy.

After Palace fans shared the post far and wide, Mr March was told his tickets were in safe hands, and was put in touch with Mr Selwyn.

Commenting on the original post, he wrote: "Thanks to everyone who posted all of this. My dad had left tickets on train, Matthew Selwyn if you can message me when you get a chance that would be wonderful.

"Thanks again, can't begin to tell you how relieved he/we are."

He later added: "Thanks for help everyone. I think we have made contact. Approvals it all. And yes. The old man is a daft old fart."
