A nursery which was based at the foot of Grenfell Tower has finally moved into a permanent home six years after the devastating fire.

Grenfell Early Years Nursery was located in the block for three decades and looked after 40 children a day before the inferno in June 2017.

Since 2021 it has been at Oxford Gardens Primary School, but has now moved to its full time home at the Ilys Booker Centre following a £2million refurbishment.

The nursery delivers full and part time early education for children aged between one and three years old.

Kensington and Chelsea councillor Catherine Faulks said: “I’d like to pay tribute to all the families and members of the community who have got us to where we are today, with Grenfell Early Years Nursery back in the Lancaster West Estate.

"This has been an important and sensitive process, and I’m so pleased that local families are happy with the new space. I know the committed and compassionate staff will continue to bring care and joy to the lives of children for generations to come.”

Dee Dainton, from the nursery's management committee, said: “The opening of this new space is an occasion of mixed emotions.

"We will not forget the well-loved and remembered children and members of this community who lost their lives in the Grenfell tragedy. We hope this building will be a worthy tribute to them."
