Grenfell Tower fire: Family pays tribute to 'lovable, smart, kind' teenager killed in blaze

Jonathan Mitchell24 September 2017

The family of a teenager killed in the Grenfell Tower fire has paid tribute to her as a "lovable, smart and kind person".

Nur Huda El-Wahabi, 16, was one of five members of the same family who all died in the horrific blaze after becoming stuck on the 21st floor.

The Met Police confirmed on Friday that Nur Huda was one of the 80 people believed to have been killed in the fire on June 14.

Her parent Abdulaziz El-Wahabi, 52, and Faouzia, 41, their eldest son Yasin, 20, and Mehdi, eight, have already been confirmed dead at inquests.

On Friday, Nur Huda became the fifth family member confirmed to have died.

Surviving relatives said in a statement: "Nur Huda was a lovable, smart and kind person. She had a lot of potential and that can be recognised in her recent GCSE exam results.

"We are proud of her and will continue on remembering her and all our family and friends who have died in this tragedy."

It comes as scores of people gathered for an emotional vigil to the victims to mark 100 days since the horrific blaze.

Mourners gathered by the Maxilla Social Club in a community space created by local residents to offer those affected by the fire a place to come together.

The Bishop of Kensington, Graham Tomlin, was the first to speak, offering up a prayer for those who died on June 14, pledging not to let "their memory pass".

He said: "We pray for all that is going on to try to discover the truth of what happened.on that night and the time leading up to it.

"We pray for truth to be revealed, we pray for justice to be done, and we pray for reconciliation to happen.

"We pray for a future and a hope."

Earlier this year, teachers at Nur Huda's school Holland Park School told the Standard she was a "warm and outgoing" student.
