Dramatic footage taken from a cyclist's helmet camera shows the moment he crashed into the side of a car which pulled out in front of him.

A clip, posted on YouTube yesterday, appears to show the man cycling on Clapham Road on a designated cycle path when the car emerged from a side street and turned right ahead of him.

The cyclist swerved to the right to avoid the car but crashed into its side in the incident on May 20.

The clip has been watched almost 150,000 times since it was posted by user Leluxe.cc with the description: "Lucky to be alive.

"Ok, guys here it is. On the 20th May 2014, I was riding my new bike to work testing it out before my trip to Malaysia to ride kuantan 160."

After the crash, the helmet-clad cyclist is left screaming in pain on the ground.

An online debate raged in comments below the clip as to who was to blame for the collision.
