Fashion designer Jeff Banks has unveiled a new look for one of London’s top tourist attractions.

The designer, who studied at Camberwell College of Arts and opened his first boutique in Blackheath, was commissioned to update staff uniforms at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.

Banks, 71, who was approached because of his links to the area, revamped the blazers and brought in new neckties.

He revealed he lost money on the project, telling the Standard: “The silk scarves came in at much more than they had in the budget, so I donated those... Being a local bloke I wanted to give back.”

He said the blue suits were inspired by the site’s maritime past.

And though some had feared his design would be too “wacky”, he said staff “love” the outfits.
