A cyclist is fighting for life in hospital after a crash with a car in south-west London.

The man, aged in his 70s, was rushed to hospital after the collision in Kingston town centre on Monday afternoon.

Police said his injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Officers were called to the crash in Fairfield North at the junction with London Road at about 1.45pm.

Paramedics from London Ambulance Service attended and took the man to a south London hospital.

The busy junction was closed to traffic as police investigated the crash.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 1.40pm today to reports of a road traffic collision at the A308, Kingston.

"We sent an ambulance crew and a single responder in a car to the scene. The first of our medics arrived at the scene in under one minute.

"We treated a man at the scene for a head injury and took him as a priority to a hospital in south London."
