Let them eat cake: passengers on the Heathrow Express get a slice of the anniversary action

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Heathrow Express, a huge sponge cake in the shape of one of the airport service's trains has been created at Paddington station, with slices being handed out to passengers so they can share the celebration. The locomotive-shaped cake is 13ft long and took 30 hours to make. It is made of sponge, fondant icing and chocolate - yum yum.

The £440 million Heathrow Express rail link opened to passengers in June 1998. According to the powers that be, the service has transported more than 60 million passengers between Paddington station and Heathrow Airport since it was launched.
