A pair of Lionel Messi’s football boots will go on show at the Design Museum.

They will be part of a groundbreaking new exhibition called Football: Designing the Beautiful Game, which opens next April.

It will look at the ideas informing how major stadiums are built, the technology used in the latest high spec boots and the graphic design behind club badges.

The boots belonging to the former Barcelona star, who now plays for Paris St-Germain, will be joined in the exhibition by supporters’ banners and shirts worn by legendary players, including Argentina’s World Cup winner Diego Maradona, who died last year aged 60.

Other planned exhibitions include a look at surrealism and a tribute to the career of museum founder Sir Terence Conran.
