The Queen has issued a heartfelt message in the aftermath of the London Bridge terror attack.

Her Majesty said her “deepest sympathies” were with all those who have lost loved ones in yesterday’s “terrible violence.”

She also praised the "brave individuals who put their own lives at risk" during the knife attack.

The statement issued by Buckingham Palace said: “Prince Philip and I have been saddened to hear of the terror attack at London Bridge."

It adds: “We send our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to all those who have lost love ones and who have been affected by yesterday’s terrible violence.

“I express my enduring thanks to the police and emergency services, as well as the brave individuals who put their own lives at risk to selflessly help and protect others.”

Two people were killed and three others injured in a knife rampage before convicted terrorist Usman Khan was shot dead by police.

The 28-year-old, who was on licence and wearing an electronic monitoring tag, was attending a conference on prisoner rehabilitation organised by University of Cambridge-associated Learning Together at Fishmongers’ Hall and reportedly “threatened to blow up” the building.

Armed with two knives and wearing a fake suicide vest, Khan was tackled by members of the public before he was shot dead by police on London Bridge next to the Hall.

Video footage posted online shows Khan being taken to the ground as one man sprays him with a fire extinguisher and another, reportedly a Polish chef, lunges towards him with a narwhal tusk believed to have been taken from the wall inside the Hall.

Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said he had been living in the Staffordshire area and that police were “not actively seeking anyone else” over the attack
